I am trying to import from Act! into Maximizer about 1900 contact records. During the import process the import manager hangs (Maxport or whatever was provided with the Maximizer program). Short of using the ctl-alt-del key combonation to kill the import manager I have found no way to prevent this problem or to get any response from my computer. I have experienced this same problem with both Maximizer version 5.0 and 6.0. Needless to say the notes, history, calander items are missing. Most of the contact records do seem to be intact but are useless without the notes and history that I lose.

Installation is a single user on a Win 98 notebook not configured for peer to peer file sharing.

Does anyone have any suggestions to resolve this?

TIA

I had to convert many Act databases and this is the process I used. Hope it is helpful!

3. Point to the new database

Import Data into Maximizer:

1. Create a new Maximizer Database
2. Under File menu choose Import

Yep,

I'm afraid the Maximizer ACT import often gives up during the Notes import phase. You can try saving in an older ACT format which sometimes works.

As a result of this problem we've written our own quite neat converter that reads directly from an ACT database. All the old fields names and groups are transferred along with the contacts and their notes. The document/emails are not, but then these are not taken by the Maximizer conversion either.

If you like we can convert the data for you (it needs saved to ACT3 format which you can do from inside ACT). I'm afraid there would be a cost.

If you would like more details or a quote please email me at ian.wallace@cabc.co.uk

I had the same problem with my company, all that you do is re create your act database
i did it by starting a new database calling it "temporary" set up contact record "temp name and company", then on Act goto file: data exchange: import, copy from the damaged database (or one you want to import to maximizer) and then copy everything it will take 10 minutes and you have to wait as when a duplicate enry is found it will prompt you what you would like to do with it. Once this done, import to maximizer and all is well, I did not however copy apointments and notes well so this i did from my palm and told palm to overwrite maximizer and with address book I set up from hotsync setup "do nothing" this then worked!!!!!!!
