For some reason I can't get into my Maximizer Ver 7. I reinstalled the program to different drive and still wont work. I copied all my data files from a backup and still can't get it going. I get no error message - other than Maximizer program not responding - it just hangs. I'm using Windows XP Pro. Can you help. Please. Thank you.

Do you have to logon to your machine with a User name and Password, in other words is this machine part of a Domain or Workgroup.
If so, which profile was Maximizer installed under? was it installed as Administrator but the profile trying to access it is a User? Where is the data you are trying to access, located? is it on a Server or on the Local machine? If you go to Start>Run and type 'regedit' then click OK. Once in the Registry Editor browse to; HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Multiactive Software\Maximizer\Common\Startup or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Multiactive Software\Maximizer\Modules\AMGR\Startup In the first location will be two keys called 'Address Book' and 'Address Book Path' Do they say anything? In the second location there will be two keys called 'DefDirName' and 'DefDirPath' what do these say? One of them should have the name and location of the data your Maximizer is trying to access each time you load it, if you Right Click on and select Modify for both, and delete its contents from 'Value Data' (Do Not Delete the key itself!) When you open Maximizer it should load, but stay on the big blue screen with just 4 drop down menus (File, Utilities, e.t.c.) What happens if you go to File>Open Address Book and you opened a different database (Possibly the 'Tutorial' database) if you have any others? If not, what happens if you go to File>New Address Book and create a New Empty address book. What if Maximizer still won't load though? If this is the case do you have any Virus Checkers running? (Locally or on a Server) If so are you running Norton AntiVirus or is it another? I am increasingly seeing more and more problems arising from Maximizer and Norton conflicts (Especially with Word documents in Max, but this could also be effected by it) The most important suggestion is, if it can load when its relevant Registy key is emptied, but not when it is trying to open something, where is the data? Local Workstation or Server? Regards CABC Support |

We're having the exact same problem with Max 6.0 running on a Win 2000 network. What did you do to fix your problem? We're able to open a new address book from any PC, but only the server can open an address book with our data. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks. |

Hi Peter - you said you got it going again. Can you share with the rest of us what the solution was?
I have a similar problem - suddenly, for no reason I can see, I can't open several of my Address Books. I select them, click Open and the cursor just changes to an hourglass for a few seconds then back to an arrow as if nothing had happened. I can create and open/close a new Address Book- but when I copy the files into that folder from the old Address Book the problem starts again. Tried restoring from a back onto a new machine with a fresh Max install from CD - exactly the same problem. Yet there are several Address Books I'm having no problems with. Using Max 7, Win 98 & Win 2000), stand alone on 2 different machines. Thanx for your help - R. |

This could be any manner of things, you could try my suggestions in the above reply.
You say you have a 2 machines, which one has the data? Or is it on a Server? If it is on a server then it could be a permissions problem, but that would 'usually' be followed by an Error 46 on the User file How about a Routing or Name Resolution problem if the data is on either a server or another workstation? How are you trying to access the data? \\MachineName\MaxData\Data or Z:\Data Can you PING the machine that has the data by name or IP address? How about going to File>New Address Book and browsing to the same data, but change the browse path before opening from Z:\Data or \\MachineName\MaxData\Data TO; \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\MaxData\Data (the 'x's being the Data machines IP address) If this works then this is a Name resolution issue. If not then again, which profile was Maximizer installed under? was it installed as Administrator but the profile trying to access it is a User? If this is the case then modifications to the User permissions in the Registry maybe needed (this is only an issue on Windows 2000 and XP clients because of its increased security) Regards CABC Support |

What worked for me was to delete the file ~pvsw~.loc from the folder where I had my database. Hope this helps.

Master |
Rather than delete the ~pvsw~.loc file, you should use the Gateway Locator utility to create a permanent assignment to your [dedicated] gateway machine.
