Moving an Address Book to a new PC

I'm running Max 9.0 and am removing it from an older PC to put on a newer one. The software is installed but I can't move the Address Book. I've tried exporting the data to a CSV file and that does not appear to work. Following instructions from an earlier post on here, I tried a backup on the old machine and then a restore on the newer machine. Under the Administrator application, Utilities option, the Restore function is greyed out. Any other ideas for me?

Thanks,

John

PS: I even tried to just copy the folder from the old PC with the Address Book and then pasting it in the folder on the newer PC but it won't open.

Have you tried creating a new address book on the new computer with exactly the same name as the one you have on your old PC and then once that's done then do a restore of the address book? I think that might work.

Good Morning,

The reason you are seeing the Restore function grey'd out is because you are logged into a Database.

Close Maximizer (if open) and in the Administrator click File>>Close Address book. From there you can go to the utilities menu and the restore function will be available.

Thanks. I do have the Restore function available now. A couple more questions if I may. Do I have to create a new empty database? Where should my restore files from the old PC be placed?

Thanks.

Good Afternoon,

Yes you should create a new blank address book to restore into, just make sure that after creating it you click File>>Close Address Book again.

The restore files can be placed anywhere on your local PC.

Thanks again. Here's what I did: I created a blank database using Administrator and made sure it was closed. I clicked on Utilities, selected Restore and then selected the Address Book to restore and a screen appeared to tell me no reords were read, etc. The button for Restore was greyed out and I didn't get the chance to select where the .SAV files were located.

Hi,

I am faced with the same problem except I am using Max 8. I installed Max 8 on my new laptop. Copied the Maximizer folder containing "AddrsBks" over to the new laptop.

I have created another address book USInstitutions. Now, I have taken the copied Max 8 folder and pasted it to /allusers/Maximizer.

When I created the new address book, I pointed it to the folder /allusers/Maximizer.

When I click on open address book it shows the path, which I point to "AddrBks" containing the folder for the address book USInstitutions. Nothing happens.

Am I supposed to back up Maximizer on my old PC? Well, I've done that. And I have copied the back up over to the new laptop. I tried pointing to the directory for the back up and nothing happens. The restore menu still shows no records.

Could someone please show this dummy a step by step approach?

A sheepish thanks to all.
