when i write a macro and ask for it to run 3 times it performs the same actions on the same address 3 times. it does noit scroll thru the address book. also when i restart the macro at a location further down the list it goes back to the first entry and performs the macro instead of starting at the new location.

Sounds like you need to take extra care in recording the macro - using the correct keystrokes to move to next record, etc. They're very finicky, but they do work - just keep practising with a small data set on a test database.
