Means of backing up without adminstrator tool?

Currently one of the servers I administrate is running Maximizer Enterprise-Pervasive 7.0. The difficulties I am having with this server are physically not a local server, and currently although it is accessible to users, the administration tool and basically everything else is not accessible.

While attempting to load Maximizer Enterprise 7.0(gui) locally on the server or the Administrator, the process hangs. I have attempted to leave it for multiple hours to see if it would eventually follow through loading, however it will not.

Maximizer itself is rather foreign to me as I have only had brief encounters over the past two weeks. I am unsure exactly how the data is stored, but I was hoping I could either back it up using the pervasive interface, otherwise by simply backing up the folders containing the address books.

Eventually after backing them up I will need to restore them, as the physical server is being replaced, while the current one is actually borrowed from another organization.

As I do not have the means to properly test this, and I have not been able to find any specific documentation relating to someone not being able to access the Administrator portion of Max, I hope any of you can enlighten me on a solution to this problem, or atleast the methods that will not work.

Thanks in advance,

- Praethian

We back our data up each night using Arcsoft, and have restored it successfully using the same means. I have frequently simply copied the folders (and their contents) and renamed them to create completely new Address Books. Max is pretty easy to work with on this level. The only thing you may want to watch when you do the restore is the pvsw.loc file. I think after the restore but before opening the address book you may want to delete this file so it's recreated with the parameters of the new server.

If you have questions about the pvsw.loc file I'm afraid they're beyond me - you should check the Maximizer knowledge base at www.maximizer.com/support, or find a business partner to work with, search this orum or post a topic and see what responses you get.

Although I cannot backup with another utility (server stability, non-profit organization so funding is very tight) I will attempt to try via backing up the directories, and removing the pvsw.loc as you stated next time I head out to that office.

Thank you very much for the help.

A while back someone suggested a way of using the built-in Pervasive utilities to do a backup. Details here.
