We have maximizer 7 with 2 licences and 3 users. User 1 can get access whenever he logs on. User 2 can only get access if user 3 is not logged on and user 3 can only get access if user 2 is not logged on. This occers even when user 1 is not logged on. We run a workgroup environment. Can anyone explain what is going on?

With only two licences you can only have two concurrent users. Also, with only two licences have you configured which machine is the gateway? I'd recommend you check out Maximizer's knowledgebase for configuring Maximizer for a workgroup environment and consider another licence.

You misunderstand the problem. User two and three cannot log on concurrently even if they are the only users. They can only log on concurrently with user one. I have tried the Maximizer knowledgebase on a number of occassions but can find no information on this problem. I don't know how the company operates in Canada but in Australia you have to upgrade existing licences to the latest version before you can add new licences which makes adding a licence for a part time employee somewhat expensive.

What happens when they try? Error message? Machine hangs? Please be specific.

I'm pretty sure that is not the case. You should be able to buy additional licenses for any supported version (currently 7, 7.5 and 8).

The error message is: "You have not enough licenses. You have a two license pack. Please see your administrator about acquiring more licences"

Make sure that everybody is out of Maximizer. Go to the gateway machine and do

Start > Programs > Pervasive.SQL > Other Utilities > Monitor

then choose

MicroKernel > Active Users...

to see if you have any active users. If so, check their machines to see if they have MaxAlarm or MaxFinder active in the system tray. Those apps could be using a license even if Maximizer itself isn't open.

Other than that, my suggestion would be that if you want three users then have three licenses....
