Outlook 2003 Integration?

We've successfully been using Max 5 with Outlook 2000 but we're going through a revamp of our hardware and software and will more than likely be upgrading to Max 7.

The question has been asked about Outlook 2003 and will it work with Max 7. Maximizer support didn't give a thumbs up just a "try it and see" answer. I'd rather have some users comment if they are using this configuartion Max 7/Outlook 2003 before I put forward the suggestion to my company to upgrade MS Office to 2003.

Thanks in advance

Our IT folks did a review of this forum and others, and made the rounds through their other admin contacts. Consensus seemed to be to stay with Outlook 2000 with Max 7. We are integrated to a very limited extent (basic outbound email only on a low volume basis) and have had a few hiccups. Having said that, I've spoken to Max resellers who are supposed to be quite knowledgeable and they say Outlook 2000 should work fine.

So I guess we're "special" once again ... sigh ...

Please let me know your decision and how it goes.

The main thing to consider when looking at Outlook 2002/2003 is the fact that you have to have both programs open (Max and Outlook) in order to be able to use the email functionality, which kinda defeats the purpose of integrating, IMHO. With Outlook 2000, you don't physically need to have Outlook open to be able to use it through Max. Having talked with an old buddy who knows Max inside and out, he says it has to do with changes Microsoft made to Outlook to tighten down security. They removed the bits of code that would let 3rd party programs like Max connect. It's something to do with MAPI, I think, and they also set a limit to how long an application can be connected to Outlook. Don't know the specifics, but I know he says to stick with 2000.

Anyway, the point is that you should be able to get away with it even if it isn't a supported product. Don't expect much help if you run into problems, though.

If he's using Max 5 he wont get support anyway, it will probably work with Max, but I think its pretty funny that your IT dept allocated resources to upgrade your email browser but not your CRM.

PillPopper - your quick to reply without reading the original thoroughly. As I said upgrading to Max 7 is basically a done deal - it was OutLook 2003 integration I was asking about with Max 7.

Thanks to the others that took the time to share their experiences - I'm leaning towards advising against Outlook 2003 for the time being until Maximizer (perhaps v 8.0) actually lists it as a supported product.
