Dear all,
I use Maximizer version 4 with Pervasive Btrieve v6.15 on NT sp5 environment. I receive randomly the following error message (roughly translated) : "DataManager has sent error number 46 : an ACCESS DENIED error occurred on the 'Letters' file. You try to update a READ ONLY file or a password protected file. No password has been specified to open this file". Sometimes, the error occurs on "user's fields" file. What are the actions to perform to prevent this error to come up? This error forces to reboot the server or activate/deactivate Pervasive services? I would greatly appreciate your help! |

Error code 46 is an access denied error code, usually occuring when someone trys to write to a read only file.
Check the property of your database files, by right clicking on .MAX files in your database folder and selecting properties, and check they aren't read only. Also check that each workstation has sufficent rights to registry keys. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maximizer Technologies and Btrieve Check that all Maximizer workstations use the same version of Btrieve. Load Maximizer and go to Help>About Maximizer. Btrieve Version will indicate with version of Btrieve you have. All workstations MUST have the same version of Btrieve or error code 46 will appear during Maximizer usage. network permission settings could also be a factor, verify that the workstation has the proper rights to access the Maximizer database across the network. I hope this may help Cabc Support support@cabc.co.uk |

Thank you very much for your reply!
Could you give additional tips about the registry to check (Name + values)? Thanks a lot! |

>values)? He wasn't talking about the values themselves, he was referring to the permissions on them, i.e. Security > Permissions... in the regedt32 menu. Try setting the permissions to "Full Control" and see if that helps. BTW, Max4 is no longer supported by Multiactive and Btrieve 6.15 is no longer supported by Pervasive, so don't be surprised if you receive a few gentle hints to upgrade your software (like this one |
