Maximizer Entrepeneur CRM10
SQL Server 9.00.3042.00 - SP2 (Express Edition)
Database held on Microsoft Server 2008
5 User Licences

Clients either Vista, Win 2000, or Windows Server 2003 R2 (Terminal Server)

I upgraded recently from Max 9 to Max 10, and I had no real problems (after you tackle the various port issues and use the downloadable installer to install onto Windows 2008 server). However, I have seen a marked deterioration in the speed, and the system is way slower than the old Pervasive based software.

For example, I can get the splash screen for up to 60s, then get login screen. Login is OK and then get variable times before 'Today' screen is shown, anything from 1-2s to 60s. The same is true on any client, independent of O/S, and when running remotely on our terminal server.

I also get strange "Unknown Caller" listings - maybe interacting with my phone system some how?

Anyhow, the slowness is driving me insane - anything I should be checking?

I found the solution after trawling websites.

It is related to SQL Express which has a default AUTO_CLOSE setting of True. Changing this to False, and changing the Compatibility level to SQL Server 2005 (90) (defaults to SQL Server 2000 (80)) has now meant that everything runs at a normal speed.

Curious to know what u needed to do too find these settings and then change them. Wouldn't mind checking to see what the settings are on my system.

I used Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express, connected to the MAXIMIZER SQL server, and then right mouse clicked on the appropriate database to select the 'Properties'. Within the Database Properties, is the page 'Options'. Here you can adjust the Compatibility level, and the status of the Auto_Close.

This improved things for us, although I still get unusual "delays" sometimes, as if our server is waiting for something, times out and then kicks back into action.
