When using the ODBC links to Maximizer I can edit exisiting data, however when I try to insert a record I get this error message: ODBC--insert on a linked table 'U_MY_UDF_NAME' failed. [Maximizer][ODBC Driver]Column not updateable. (#0) Multiactive's web site (Knowledge Base) says that the links allow modifying, inserting and deleting data - so it should work. The first column ("#0" presumably) is the "Client_Id" field, so I can't see how I can avoid putting a value in that. (And if I try then I get an error about it being null.) I've tried this in different ways, and from different versions of MS-Access (95, 97 and 2000). And I've tried on 2 different PCs (each with Windows2000). I've tried inserting records in a few ways, including * simply opening the linked table and typing in values * Doing a Cut-n-Paste of an existing record in a linked table * Using an SQL append query I've tried both with tables like "CLIENT" and user-defined-field tables - but I keep getting the error. I can't see anything about the error on the web. So if you have ideas, please help. Thank you, Andrew Greenhill | ||

FYI: I have the answer now! A Maxi user explained to me (through another user-group) that when INSERTing you can only set the following 3 fields: * Client_Id * Contact_Number * U_{UDF_name} That's quite different to the MODIFY situation, so t'was tricky. Now I can INSERT successfully. Cheers, Andrew Greenhill Technical Support Manager Earth Resource Mapping, Asia Pacific.
