I have been installing, reinstalling, refreshing, and deleting log files and such for a couple of days now. We use FTP transport and, until now, everything was working perfectly. I am down to the following issues: a. The exchange server puts the .ATT and .HDR files in the proper hex folder in the outbox, and my remote says it is connected and looks like it's processing packets. But the .HDR and .ATT files never actually leave the server. Why is this? b. My remote client keeps trying to access Outlook, even though I am not using email transport. Ideas? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Reset the MaxExchange server, deleted the Maxdrb, Maxtrans, and Maxdist files on the server DB, and completely reinstalled Maximizer client on the remote. Result? Same problem, says it's connected, acts like it's downloading and processing, but never actually grabs the .att and .hdr files from the server. I'm baffled.

In attempting to use FTP in command line window to check my access to the server, I discovered that I could log in just fine but that when I tried to look at a directory (outbox for example) FTP would hang. I then went to my Zone Alarm configuration on the server and opened up all ports, not just 21, to MaxExchange. This solved my problem. The remote suddenly started downloading and processing the refresh.

In a Fixed public IP address configuration through a firewall, you typically need to open port 21 both ways and ports 11000 - 12000+ Outbound only if i recall.

This forum is amazing. I'm returning here 4 years later because I've got the same problem and I forgot how I resolved it. Thank you MaxTalk for not purging or archiving this discussion. One more note to add that could help some folks from going on a wild goose chase in the future.

The password you should use in setting up the FTP server on the remote client is the one you entered in the Site Administration server settings, NOT YOUR ADDRESS BOOK PASSWORD. This is NOT made clear in the documentation. This is a separate, FTP password used only for Maxexchange server.

All remotes should use this same password. The address book ID will determine which packets go to which remote clients. By the same token, when you're checking for FTP connectivity with the command line interface (terminal), use "maxexchange" as the user and the Maxexchange Server password as the password.
