How do I share a database between two computers. I don't want to be able to use it on both computers at the same time. I have set the software up as a server on one of the computers and added a user to it. It's probably easy but I'm all out of ideas.
Can anyone help. Cheers

Hi Francis,

You can set this up with a little thought and care, I assume the machines are Networked together though!

What you need to do is create an area of disk which both machines can see. To do this share in windows explorer part of the disk so the other machine can see it, on the second machine Map a drive to this part of the disk.

Install Maximizer on each machine, They could both be installed as servers or workstations I think as they will effectively be single user installations.

Do not use the Gateway locator, create the database on the shared drive. You should then be able to access the database one at a time. If the other machine is in the database then you will get a message stating you have run out of licenses, or multiple machine have tried to access a single user database.

If you have any trouble please post back, or if you need an extra license call 01635 570970 to speak our sales department. I'm sure they can help!

Thanks for getting back to me Nick.

I have already tried this but it doesn't seem to work.

I have shared the maximizer folder on the server machine and then created a new address book on the other machine which is addressed to the shared folder on the server.

When I try and open it I get the following message. "The maximum number of user licenses has been reached To obtain more licenses, please see your administrator"

I'm not sure why I am getting this message as I have made sure tho server machine was not running that database at the same time.

Cheers,

Fred
