Hi I would like to convert my Maximizer DB to MS Access in order to backup my information. Is there any 3rd party program or way through access/maximizer to do this? The phone tech support was not very helpful I am hoping that this board can come up with the information that I need. Thanks

Good Morning

If you need to backup the information in your Maximizer database I would suggest that you do so using the Backup function within the Maximizer Administrator. All you need to do is start the Administrator and log in, the click File>>Close Address Book, then go to the Utilities menu and click 'Backup Address Book'.

That doesn't answer my question at all. MS Access cannot open the Backup. Is there a way to convert these saved files into a readable format that will work with Access?

I don't understand why you are wanting to use access to perform the backup function when a perfectly usable solution is available in maximizer as CABC Support advised you.

What you are asking for just doesn't make sense.

Because I want to be able to view the files in access as its a more widely used platform than Max.

Why does what I am asking for not make any sense? I am sure that you or anyone else reading my post can understand what I want to do. Just because a function exists to backup things in unusable .sav files doesnt mean that I want to be restricted to using only that function. Maximizer is very unhelpful in exporting the data, it is easy to convert things in but near impossible to convert out. It is pretty obvious to me why this is, but I dont need people like you telling me that it doesnt make sense...because it does.

Good Morning Gentlemen, first off can I please remind you that this forum exists for discussion of technical and user issues relating to Maximizer Software and not for arguements. Please do not let this thread degenerate into a series of arguements or it will be locked.

Now, as to your question rha05. The Backup function in Maximizer is the only supported method of backing up the database. What you are asking for is a data extraction which is a much more complex process.

First up the .sav files, these are compressed pervasive backup files created by the pervasive engine via Maximizer and designed to be restored the same way, in this respect it is no different to MS SQL backup files, which are only readable by MS SQL.

You can access the Maximizer Tables via ODBC and use that to link the data into/import into MS Access, however I do not believe you will be able to access documents stored in Maximizer this way. Also unless you have a detailed and in depth knowledge of how the various tables in the database relate to each other and how the keys link up you will not see the data in any especially useable fashion.

If you have a specific requirement for a program that will extract the data and format into an Access Database one can probably be written for you but to do such a project would require several days of development time, which would obviously be chargable.

Your final option is to talk to the business partner you purchased Maximizer from and (providing you are using a currently supported version) ask them to order you a customisation suite, this contains program examples for writing integration applications with Maximizer and it contains more details about the design of most of the tables in the Maximizer Database and how they link up. However Maximizer Software will also make a charge for this suite and it is not cheap.
