Has ne1 come across this prob??
We created a mock scenario of a single remote and server machine using Max 5.5. We had issues in that opportuntites do not sychronise from the server machine to the remote even when logged on with the same user name on each machine (a note is created to say that the opp has been produced though). Synchronising works fine vice versa though.
Installing Sales Team resolved this prob but for those smaller clients who do not wish to purchase this module they may well have issues.
(Would these machines having had Max Ent 5 previously affect this?? fully uninstalled though)

You must configure the opportunity distribution with the sales team distribution list manager or you'll only send client data to a distribution site.

I think you'll find that while not all sales environments need the strategy functionality of sales team, it quickly becomes a necessity to enable opportunity sharing at most sites that make use of the opportunity manager component.
