Hello,

I am looking for some help with a problem I am having since moving over to a blackberry.

I am running Max 9.5 on my laptop along with Outlook 2007 and now a Blackberry pearl.

I have Max set up to sync with Outlook 07. I then have Blackberry sync with Outlook when I plug in my Blackberry. The problem is that I seem to be getting a large number of duplcates back in max when the sync is finished.

This mostly happens with tasks, but sometimes it happens with calendar and contacts.

1. Has anyone out there experienced something similar?

-- or --

2. Is there a product that can sync max straight to blackberry. I would love to not need to use Outlook in between.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Greg

Hi Gord

Thanks for your input. I did consider an upgrade to Max 10, but I dont like that the contact sync to the Blackberry is to an application other than the native address book application on the phone.

I had an arrangement similar to that with Act for Palm several years ago (Yechhhh!) and it was very awkward to use, voice dialing didnt work, etc. I likely wouldnt go down that road again. From what I have read, Max 10 is similar in that you have to use the Max for BB app on the phone to search for addresses, etc.

If I am incorrect on any of this, please set me straight (nicely!)

I still would like to try find the source of the duplication problems.

Thanks again for your help.

Just a quick update:

I have been syncing semi-regularly (daily-ish) now for about 1 week and the duplicate thing seems to have stabilized. (Sync from Max ->Outlook 07 -> Blackberry)

For the purpose of helping others, here are a few observations/suggestions.

1. Try sync every day or close to it. I was syncing 2 times per week and was not getting great results.
2. Understand the flow: Max to Outlook to Blackberry, AND BACK.
Here is how I sync now and it seems to work very well:
- update the My Favourites list in Maximize so that all contacts are on the list.
- In Max go Tools>Synchronize with Outlook, and wait until you get the sync completed message in Max.
- Plug in Blackberry, open Blackberry desktop software, and sync BB to Outlook.
- When complete, go back into Max and repeat the Tools>Tools>Synchronize with Outlook step to complete the process. (again wait for the complete message in Max)
3. Being the impatient jerk that I am, I had problems at 1st because I would sync intermittently, not be careful of the order, get duplicates, trash the install, re-install, and try again, get duplicates, repeat insanity! This last time I was more careful of the process (see above) and I initially did get some duplicates and blank entries, but they reduced to zero over the first 2 or 3 sync processes. I have now synced 10ish times with no further problems.

I am a refugee from a Palm Treo 650 and was very spoiled with the tight sync directly with Max. I hope this was helpful.
