Hi,
We have just upgraded from Max 8 Enterprise to Max 9 Enterprise. The process was surprisingly smooth and all of our remotes were able to carry on synchronising without too much trouble. However, we have noticed that some data has gone missing. Almost all of our contacts have lost their email addresses and the same applies to some UDF fields. Somehow I think that this is related to remote synchronisation but it's very difficult to understand exactly what the process could have been. I can easily get the missing data by transferring / exporting from backed-up databases. What I can't figure out is how to get this into the current database without corrupting the (by now updated) other data. In short, I want to extract some records from an old max database, ignore everything except the email addresses for the contacts and then use this information to insert the correct email addresses into my current database without affecting any other data within the current database. I tried exporting ID, full name and email to CSV from the old database and then importing to (a test copy of) the current database but I just get duplicate contacts appearing with missing data in them (eg phone numbers). I also tried transferring the entries to a new database with the objective of transferring again into the current database but transfer also copies all related contacts too (ie every contact at each company involved in the list to be transferred) which gives me much more data than I wanted to transfer. Experience with Max8 tells me that it is unwise to delete the not-needed contacts from the new database as it has the effect of deleting these contacts from the current database when re-transferring into the current database. Anybody else had this problem and has a good procedure for this? Cheers Paul |

If you create a new database into max 9 that have the same name, from there you import addresse book entries? If you have more contact you should use the duplicate checker.
Good luck. Also call the free technical support for 30 day's. They can go by remote into your computer and fix all kind of problems. Running maximizer 9 since February 17, 2006, with QB link. |

Hi Feejo,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately there are some problems with your ideas for me ... 1. A lot of the contacts which have lost their email details belong to opportunities which have been entered in the current address book. We do not want to lose this information. Improved opportunity features was the main reason we upgraded to ME9. 2. ME9 seems to behave strangely when duplicate checking. With plain import from csv file (file / import / address book entries) I could not get it to work at all. So I used file / import / other contact manager database. Bizarrely, this seems to switch off duplicate checking! After doing the import - which found no duplicates - going back into Admin / file / prefs / address book had the "check for duplicates when adding address book entries" checkbox cleared. So the problem remains ... I have 800 contacts with email addresses which are missing and about 1700 with UDF fields which are missing. I have a backup ME9 address book with the correct values. I want to update my current address book but only with the email / UDF data and not all of the other data. Is this possible? Cheers Paul |

Very complex situation, Paul. I think a very string reseller is definitely going to be required, even if you're working directly with Max support as Feejo suggests!
1) Have you tried calling Max directly as Feejo suggests? 2) Maybe CABC could help? THey're UK based and sponsor this board. I believe Gord is part of CABC. - R. |

Zapmaster,
There was an issue with the initial release of v9 truncating alphanumeric UDFs greater than 40 characters in length. Maximizer has posted a solution as long as you had a b/u of your former database. E-mail addresses do fall into that category. Maximizer has since addressed the problem with their HF1. It something I know I could fix and probably a BP but it involves utilities that aren't part of Maximizer and would require access to both your old and new data. I say this only to encourage you to contact a BP if the solutions posted by Maximizer aren't an option. I'm not a BP so you know. - Iris This message has been edited. Last edited by: Iris, |

Hi All,
Thanks for your ideas. You have confirmed my fears that I have a complicated problem without a straightforward fix. I guess that I could find a solution based on fiddling with the database and I will probably pursue this approach. CABC are not my original reseller but I think I'll have to take Rooster's advice and contact mine and see what they can do to help. Thanks again. This forum is a great resource and thanks also to CABC for hosting it. I shall have to try and contribute a bit more myself! Cheers Paul |
