Thanks to the recent assistance of a couple of folks here, I'm now in the process of installing the Max 9.5 Ent trial here. (I've run into installation issues but that's another matter.)

In the course of researching my installation issues, I discovered some threads on MaxExchange.

And that's what brings about my questions. I got the general idea of what MaxExchange is.
But now I'm having some configuration questions.

Originally, I was planning just to install Max Ent on my laptop. But now I'm thinking I'll install it on my server and install the workstation version on my laptop.

Is this the best way to go?

How do I keep my laptop and the server "in sync?"

Is MaxExchange the tool to do this?

Is it a separate product from Max Ent?

Some of these questions could probably be answered by Maximizer (the company) if there was more information on their website about it. But there isn't.

There's information about installing MaxExchange but I couldn't find much about configuration planning, etc.

Does the Max Ent Admin guide give that kind of information? (I do hafta admit that I read only the installation portion of the admin guide.)

Thanks for all your assistance and patience.

Yeah...even after several installs, the terminology is confusing. MaxExchange is the synchronization mechanism for MaxEnterprise. I think it is included with Enterprise (but only works with Enterprise).

Make the server the MaxExchange server. If you follow more or less the defaults, then the server will run a little service that listens for clients. Your laptop will have a little service that talks to the server. Set it up so that only the laptop initiates synchronizations, or else the server will pop errors when it tries to sync with your detached laptop. Don't open the address book directly on the server, but use your local copy which is synchronized (not that opening the server DB is bad, but it is probably faster to use the copy on your hard drive).

It is really useful when you have an entire staff synchronizing their databases.

Maximizer's best feature is the synchronization: It is powerful and robust. The searching is pretty good also.
