Hi,
I have just recently started using Maximizer. I need to import data from Microsoft Excel v. 2000 into Maximizer. Is it possible? My spreadsheet consists of 5 columns with a header row and approx. 400 rows. |

Yes you can import from Excel but it has some pitfalls.
First make sure your columns match the fields in Maximizer. eg. First Name, Last Name, Company, Department, Division Address Line 1, Address Line 2, City , State, Postcode, Country etc. Then to avoid one of Excels little suprises add an extra column on the end (right) called DUMMY and fill the column with the text 'Dummy' against all the rows. When you import into maximizer skip this field. You need to do this as maximizer expects every import record to have the same number of fields. Excel often only exports the colums in a row that have data. Then save the excel sheet as tab delimited text. Use the File/ Import menu in Maximzier to import the file. Do a two pass import companies first then contact neames. (Check the manual for details of this). You should get a good result. If you already have an existing database try the import in a new empty database. When your happy your getting the result you want either transfer the records or re-import this time into your main database. Regards Ian Wallace CABC - Newbury, UK |

Ian,
I don't quite get what you mean by two passes, with company first and then contact next. What difference will it make? Thanks |

When you import tell Maximizer your importing the companies and ony match the company fields the first time you import.
The second time tell Maximizer you have contacts and map the company name (or ID ) and the contact details. If you do not use a two pass import Maximizer will create Individual client records which you almost certainly do not want. Regards, Ian Wallace |
