Hi All,

We run maximizer enterprise 9 here and we store a fair amount of information in user defined fields. The problem now is that when a user wants to select a value from a User Defined Field, they have to go searching through the values as they are not in alphabetical order. All Service packs have been installed.

I did see the following in the knowledge base under information regarding SR2 for Max Enterprise 9:

Table User-Defined Fields Sort Order
When a database was converted from Maximizer Enterprise 8 to Maximizer Enterprise 9, table user-defined field items no longer appeared sorted alphabetically.

However SR2 has not fixed the problem. Also when adding a new value in a user defined field table, it just attaches at the very end. It will not resort the values automatically.

Is there any way that you can force maximizer to sort these values alphabetically?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi, Aaron.

>However SR2 has not fixed the problem.

The problem that was addressed in SR2 was the unintended changing of sort orders when an address book was upgraded from v8 to v9. SR2 does not go back and re-sort existing items because it has no way of knowing which items had a custom sort order prior to the upgrade. In other words, SR2 only ensures that if you were to upgrade another address book from v8 to v9 in the future, the items would not get shuffled.

That is correct. Once a custom sort order has been applied Maximizer will not re-sort items.

I have devised a way to reset the sort orders to alphabetical. It operates on _all_ UDFs, UDF folders, and UDF table items (i.e., everything is reset to alphabetical). I have used it in the past to help clients recover from the address book upgrade bug. They have had to re-apply some of the custom sorting that they had previously done, but in each case it was less work than clicking the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons for their table-type UDFs that had several hundred items each.

I can do the same for you on a fee-for-service basis. A one-hour minimum charge would apply. For more information, click here.

Hi Gord,

Thanks for the offer.

I've been having a look through the DB, and I think I have found what I need. Just need to test it, but maybe you can confirm my suspicions.

Under the AMGR_UsrFldDefsTbl table there is a field called (which they appear to have named appropriately) "CustomSort".

Now I notice most of these are set to 0, however some, which I assume are the UDFs picking up the custom sort methods are those with negative integers to define the sort order. I assume if I set these all back to 0, it will clear the custom sort orders and maximizer will return to defaultly sorting alphabetically.

Am I correct in my assumptions?

You have the right idea, but I think you'll find that if you try to update those values using an SQL command in the Pervasive Control Center it won't work.
