Hello all!

I have read all the threads I can find about maxexchange, and the few sections I could find in the MaxExchange Admin guide.

Here's the issue I'm trying to solve.

We have Maximizer 9 Ent running on a workstation. We have upgraded to a 3-user license with the aim of having 3 users distributed, and keeping their address book updated via ftp and MaxExchange.

To that end, I set up a the maxexchange server and a test remote and got them working just fine. Did all sorts of testing that we could think of in terms of different update scenarios. So far, so fine.

Now I am wanting to test the process of moving the real data onto the server, and propagating it to the test workstation. I expect to repeat this process when testing is complete.

The server seems to do its thing properly, and shows the new address book in the Site Manager. I should note at this point that I created a new distribution setup.

The testPC has a new address book ID. The diagnostics indicate that the data should synchronize with the remote (File --> Address Book Diagnostic Tools). I have given the new distribution setup new maxexchange and guest passwords (because of the problem about to be described). The server has been re-booted to ensure the maxexchange service is properly restarted.

It is at the remote that the problem crops up. There seems to be no way to get MaxExchange remote to look for the new address book ID at the server. I have tried a number of things...
- creating a new FTP connection to the maxexchange server, using the different FTP passwords
- removing all filesystem references to the old address book ID
- searching the registry (to no avail) for references to the old address book ID

No matter what I do, it (MaxExchange Remote) insists on looking for the old address book ID.

I'm at a loss, beyond uninstalling Maximizer from the remote, purging the registry and file system and re-installing. While it might work on my newly-minted test PC, the PC that currently has the Maximizer with the active data is your typical end-user's XP Home that is totally filled with ****. I don't want to touch the box, as I'm looking at ridiculous amounts of time if something goes wrong.

So, any tips would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Derek Shaw

Thank-you, Gord!

That did the trick perfectly! A major deposit was just made in your karma account. ;-)

At the risk of sounding needy (but hey, I *am*), the next hurdle I've come up against is that I can't seem to log on as any user except Master.

That is to say, the address book just opens up without a login, and appears to be the Master user (on both the remote and the server).

I created the additional users after opening the database on the server. I created the database by just zipping up the files and ftp-ing them to the server and adding an address book.

I believe the inability to log on as another user stems from the address book's original creation by the user (on the XPHome box filled with cruft) using the Master user for everything.

I'm not having much luck finding out why the "login" choice in the File menu is greyed out, so if you have any other excellent pointers like the last one, I'll be extremely grateful.

Cheers!
d.

Launch the Administrator module. Open the address book in question. From the menu bar, choose

File > Preferences

On the "System Options" tab, tick the "Enable security" box.
