Is it true that version 8.x cannot synchronize tasks with Outlook, but version 9.x does?

How well does the synchronization work? What happens to the more advanced fields that Outlook uses (notes, time used, etc.?)

Looks like tasks are optionally synchronized in 9.5. I think if I'm doing fancy stuff in Outlook, I might sync only appointments.
