Hi,
I have purchased version 8 and are testing it before i roll it out and i have a couple questions regarding remotes and security. I have read the books and searched the knowledge base and can't find the answers.
1. I want to restrict the users at the remotes from changing their user passwords for the database. (the boss wants to keep an eye on what they are up to and needs to log as them by loging onto the server to check on them.).
2.the remotes need not backup because if they exchanging packets twice daily so only need to back up the server?

thanks

AFAIK, there is no way to do that, but...

>(the boss wants to keep an eye on what they are up to and needs to

...if the boss logs on to the server as MASTER, s/he should be able to see everything in the address book, including private entries and single-user opportunities.

In theory, yes. However, having a backup copy of the remote databases might come in handy if, say, one of the remotes fell out of sync with the main address book and you wanted to try and recover that information before sending a refresh.

thanks for the reply Gord..

for some reason that is not working for me though.
If i create a private entry on a remote and log in as master on the server i can't see them. But if i log onto the server as the remote user I can see those private entries.
Public entries no problem.

Have you checked the security settings for the MASTER user to ensure that "Modify other user's private entries" is enabled?

This just doesn't make sense. The Master user can see and do everything. I'd set-up a test database to confirm or reject what your experiencing.

On another note, if your boss is wanting to see the user's private entries then you may want to just disallow private entries at the user level and restrict their use to business only. Otherwise, if you tell users they can store "private" entries and then the "boss" is looking at them and the employees find out that'll be a quick and sure way to discourage them from using Maximizer.

Well you just brought up what's been in the back of my mine the whole time.
These people don;t work for him they are just resellers!
If i was them i won't be using it!

Back to "why can't the master see all" i'm not sure?

For calendar entries, you'll need to log on as MASTER and choose File > Users, select the user whose calendar you want to see, click "Preferences" and then adjust the "Access to Calendar" and/or "Access to Hotlist" settings on the "Calendar/Hotlist" tab.

re: privacy issue

Your boss needs to be careful. There should be a clear written policy in place and the resellers should be formally notified about it.

Much the same as what employers need to do w.r.t. reserving the right to monitor employees' Email and/or browser activity, except moreso because the resellers aren't your employees.

(IMO, IANAL, and all that...)
