I just converted from version 5 to version 7 and I regret the move. I don't like Pervasive SQL, I've lost the ability to print DayRunner or Daytimer address book lists, and I'm dreading finding out what else I've lost.

Is there a utility that will take Maximizer 7 databases and convert them back to Maximizer 5 files?

Just curious: What do you dislike about it?

Not to my knowledge....

You can not change back from version 7 to 5 with any utility. You, can however export your files from Version 7 into a text file and import back into version 5. You will lose imbeded objects in Documents and any opportunities you have entered. Although if your concerned about printing to a day planner I doubt you are using Maximizer as a CRM tool but as more of a address book, in which case exporting will work for you.

In case you were wondering Maximizer 7 does not use the pervasive SQL component for most of the program only for customer service and orderdesk, the rest of Maximizer uses the Pervasive Transactional engine as it always has. Version 5 used Btrieve 6.15 which without the Client Server component did not use shadow paging and therefore did not have a rollback ability. Without rollback you get situations where a record was damaged during access which leads to error codes like error code 2. The only recover is resort to backup or accept data loss.

The move to the newer pervasive now allows your non client server Maximizer to allow for shadow paging and prevents that kind of corruption from occuring on your data.

If printing your address information is essential to your business you can use a reporting tool and make any kind of address reports you like, by connecting to the Maximizer ODBC driver. If your really ambitious you can even go to the SQL version make a SQL view that pumps out your addresses to a report which you can print or view over the web.

In the past I have come accross situations where some other software had problems if Pervasive SQL was running. A long time ago and I can't recall what software -- it just left a bad taste in my mouth. The big concern was loss of the Maximizer "books"

Bummer.

I am in sales and I carry a 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 Daytimer binder. I have a section with my client list printed in the format that Maximizer "books" called DayTimer (in version 5)..After converting all my data to 7, I discivered I'd lost that feature. Can't imagine why they dropped it.

I thanked in the other thread, but I'll thank you here, too.

Thanks.

About the Pervasive SQL: It's growing on me. I haven't had any problems and the machine is not running any slower than it already was, so I guess I'll eat my previous words.
