I can see how to convert a contact to an individual.
But isn't it possible to put an individual into a company? What about when someone changes jobs...assuming I have some contacts at company "Real Madrid" some other contacts at "LA Galaxy." I want to move David Beckham from the former to the latter...is this possible? |

GoBlue, I also work in an industry where contacts can move from one company to another, sometimes several times. If you try to "move" a contact from one company to another it also takes all of their info with them as well as all of the activities associated with them. That creates a problem because all of those activities now are associated with a company they really have nothing to do with. And, could create some confusion for you later on in time. So, new with Max9, you are able to delete the contact from the address book of one company without loosing the information that was assiciated with them for that company. The info is simply re-associated with that company rather than the individual. After deleting the contact from their old employer, just enter them into the address book of their new one. The other "up side" to all of this is that you don't have multiple contacts with the same name in your database, while still maintaining all of the activity information you have aquired for them from the past.
Hope this helps. npaton. |

I thought that Max Enterprise 8 also did this (at least with notes).
But you are right: it's not a huge problem to just delete and re-enter someone. |

Found this golden oldie from the esteemed Rooster:
For my purposes, I'll probably do this, but delete the old entry and let its notes get moved to the old company. |

1. Don't use the favorites list. alt/Search/Company and type "Company B" Then alt/Search/Last name and type "Doe", making sure that "Add to current list" is selected. 2. When she's safely copied to Company B*, select her old "Company A" record and press the "Delete" key on your keyboard. Her notes and stuff will get moved to "Company A" (so you may want to delete them if they're no longer relevant). *(You can check this: alt/Search/Last name "Doe." It's OK to do "replace list with search results" here. You should see two entries, one with Company A and the other at Company B.) This message has been edited. Last edited by: GoBlue, |

Alernative answers to the same 2 questions :
1) Select the contact by hilighting them then press Ctl-Spacebar. Do the same with Company B. Select Edit > Make Selected List Current. You will have a list with just the contact and Company B. 2) Find Jane Doe in Company A and change her name to old_Jane old_Doe. You preserve all her info and interaction history, which is very useful if you want to be able to say "Here's what Jane Doe and I discussed during our meeting May 24". You can also do a Search on Firstname = *Jane and Lastname = *Doe and it will show her job history as she's moved from company to company. - R. |
