We're very close to purchasing MaxDoc but haven't decided on whether to store documents & emails in Max or externally and link to them. Issues are database size/erpformance, fragility/consequences of breaking links to external documents/emails, etc., and general longer term maintenance.

We currently have 5800 Address Book entries and will have a medium to large volume of emails and documents. For instance, current (very poorly groomed) Outlook PST files are 800MB in size after 18 months in operation - could definitely be shrunk but still significant, and we plan on growing the business 50%+ over the next 1-2 years.

Recommendations? Best Practices?

I would suggest to start with embedding the documents into Maximizer, then consider how quickly the database grows.

The file store is very useful when you have vast amounts of documents which do not need to sync. Previous versions of Max were limited to 4gb per file. So only 4gb of documents, the latest versions can cope with 16-64 Gb.

You mentioned that newer versions of Maximizer can handle 16-64Gb files. We have a database where the documents file has now split into multiple files, the actual Maximizer file is 2.94 Gb but now a new file has been created called MXZL.^01 and this is growing as more documents are added to the database.
Is this normal? and what affect does it have on the system? I have tried numerous backup and restores but cannot remove this file, but as you have mentioned it should be able to grow to well over this size, are there any settings i need to amend to change this?

We are using Max Ent 8 in a client server environment.

I realize this is an old post, but have you come up with an answer? I have a client tunning Maximizer Enterprise 8 - Pervasive and I have found the .^01 and now I have a .^02 files. Any information on this would be appreciated.

Hi,

the .^0x files are Maximizer files. There is still a limit on the maximum size if any one pervasive database file, however in Pervasive versions 2000i and beyond the system copes with larger file sizes by creating extension files.

Any file with the .^0x extension is a pervasive database extension file. As far as normal functionality is concerned you can ignore them as the system automatically load them as part of the main file.

For example on your hard disk there are these files; MXZL.MAX, MXZL.^01, MXZL.^02. While there are 3 distinct files there as far as pervasive and Maximizer are concerned there is only one MXZL file.

It operates like Winzip disk spanning but it a live environment.

Good afternoon, I use Max Ent 8. My question is further to the document storage issue...I have about 1000 contacts which are not likely to grow much more than that. Does Max performa well with lots of documents (200 MB worth)& do I need the Max Doc add on or can I just use the features of the program out of the box? Thanks for your help! Max Ent 8 can very easily handle that amount of data. It could handle 100 times that data w/o any problems. One of the strenghts of Maximizer vs. other contact mgmt solutions
