MTI files with foreign key

I would like to match up entires on a UDF key field (CLL account) and update some of their other UDFs - I do NOT have the company name - only a unique UDF number - I can't get the numeric flag to work, it either overwrites the existing entry completely or adds a new record...
any help gratefully appreciated
