We have Max 8 with five licenses. We decided to disable a (part-time) user so as to enable a new full-time employee. When trying to do so, we got an error message, "There are too many enabled users. The current user will be disabled."

It did this a couple of times, until we got to a point where only two users were enabled (along with the MASTER).

When checking with Start> Programs> Pevasive.SQL> Other Utilities> Monitor, it showed there were no active users, but would still not allow us to enable any additional users.

Any suggestions?

James,

Maximizer 8 does not count users by the number of people logged into the system, it counts them by the number of enabled user ID's. I'd recommend you check then installed licenses on your system but looking in the Administrator under Reports>>Current Users. This will tell you how many licenses are installed. If you have more enabled users than you have licenses you will have to disable the extra user id's or purchase additional licenses.

If the number of licenses shown is incorrect then you should reapply the license keys via the Install Multiuser License option under the Utilities menu in the Administrator.

You may have two license keys, one for Maximizer and one for the pervasive engine. The installed keys van be check via the Install Multiuser License option under the Utilities menu.
Thanks for the advice.

When trying to open Reports> Current Users, we get:
"Runtime error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Maximizer\MaData6\MaData6.dat
abnormal program termination."
And administrator crashes. This has been an issue for about a month.

When going to Utilities> Install Multiuser License, it does display three license keys - one for three users, and two for one user each.

After backing-up and restoring the db last night, we were able to re-enable the two users that Maximizer disabled. However, we're experiencing other problems now. Will post these as soon as we figure out what's going on.
I'm building my first Address Book with ME8 SR4a and I can't get past this problem. We've got 6 licenses (& 6 pervasive licenses) installed. When I create a new address book & enter File>Users, I'm allowed to create one user without a hitch, but each subsequent user throws the "too many enabled..." warning. I've tried:

1) Deleting & re-creating the AB using Escona defaults
2) Deleting & re-creating the AB using no defaults
3) Removing & re-installing the license keys

Any ides?
Thanks Gord.

Although I've read that doc before, you re-pointing me to it made me notice that the licenses needed to be installed from the server, not a client (which I was doing).

Perhaps you can answer another (likely simple) question: what does the security flag in Users>Properties>General affect? New users seem to default to "private" while the Master user is fixed at "public".

Thanks again.
