We have been using Maximizer for many years now (and many versions). We have only recently begun having issues with embedded documents. Nearly every contact has at least one embedded document, either a PDF, an excel spreadsheet or a "PaperPort File" (.max extension, ScanSoft Paperport is a scanning and document management program).
Recently, a seemingly random group of documents across contacts and across different address books have begun to exhibit problems. They will open on some machines, and not others. This is happening almost exclusively with .MAX paperport documents (scanned documents). (When they do not open we usually receive an OLE error 16389. Sometimes it is an OLE error 14, though that seems to be a seperate issue).
All the machines are running Windows XP SP2, Maximizer 7 SR2 Series 1312 and Pervasive SQL 2000i SR4 with Client and SRDE hotfixes applied.
The "server" (hosting the address books, and acting as gateway) is running Windows Small Business Server 2003 with the same Maximizer and PSQL installation.
The only difference between the machines is the version of PaperPort installed. However, there doesn't seem to be any pattern to which machines can and can not open the documents that are not working.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm at wits end, and the users of the address book are getting pretty annoyed too.
