Well I have done a lot of testing and I would like someone else to try this to confirm if I am right or wrong. I want you to make a brand new data base in Maximizer 8 and then I want you to back it up and restore it. I found that you can backup the data base but it will bog on user and not restore the user file. Please try this and see what you get and if you can get it to work maybe someone can tell me my problem

Gord did you run the whole restore, and get it to work or did you just go to the point of selecting the files? I have figured out the way to make it crash and that is if you 1st open the data base that you want to restore in Maximizer or even in the admin that will cause it to crash on the user file and transaction control during the restore process. If you go straight to the Admin through program and never open the data base in either the admin or maximizer it will work. The key is don't open the data base as it appears that If I do either Maximzier or Pervasive do not release all the files that are required to perform the restore and cause the error 25. This is at least my theory on this matter. as I have spent about 7 hours trying to produce a good restore without an error. Go ahead and try and restore the data base after opening Maximizer and then tell me what you get but run through the whole restore process and see if the user and control files match in the log following the restore. I await your response.

I did the whole restore. You'll notice that when you are at the point of selecting the files, the two columns of numbers are filled with zeros. The actual record counts do not appear until the restore of that file is complete. So, you can see that the restore got past the "User" file (13 records) and continued on with the "Cross Reference" file (79 records). It ran through to completion with no problems.

Are you saying that you are trying to restore the database while it is still open in Maximizer? If so, then that would explain the problem.

If not, then check if you have MaxFinder and/or MaxAlarm open in the system tray. If you do, try exiting them before attempting the restore.
Aha. You are on to something. Just to be sure, I tried again.

- Launched Administrator and created a new Address Book.

- Closed Administrator.

- Launched ME8 and opened the Address Book.

- Closed ME8

- Launched Administrator. The Address Book opened automatically so I closed it.

- Did the backup.

- Started the restore. It hung on the User file and eventually crapped out with error code 25, just as you said.
