My laptop is about dead and I'm going to have to move Maximizer and my files to a new one. I know I can reinstall Maximizer but how do I make sure I burn all the necessary other files to a CD? Things like my address books and user preferences I've set and user fields I've added.

Gord, I didn't seem to be able to make that work. I did a full backup from the Admin module as you suggested. I installed Max on the new laptop, started the Admin module but, of course, there was no Address Book there with the same name as on my old machine. Therefore I couldn't select which AB to restore. I created an AB with the same name but Admin still wouldn't recognize it and let me click on "Restore". Where did I go wrong?

All we ever do is use Windows Explorer to move the entire contents of the folder a specific Address Book is in. Since you're moving the Address Book to a new machine, you should be able to just copy the Address Book folder (and all its contents) to a CD, then copy from the CD to the new laptop. Max is very nice to work with in this - all your UDF's, User Preferences, etc. are contained in that single folder. At least, it is with Max 7 which we're using now, and all the previous versions of Max I've used.

I'm trying to move Max 8 onto my upgraded machine together with my address book. I've tried to 'back up' but when trying to restore from Administrator I don't get an option to point to where the back up file is.

I've tried copying the entire Maximiser Folder in doc & settings/all users/application data/maximiser/address books/name of my address book and I can open all the demos & tutorials but not my address book; it says that the 'selected address book is not compatible with this version of Maximiser', I only have one version?

Make sure your Maximizer is up-to-date with all the Service Releases click on the following link to download the latest SR's. http://www.maximizer.com/support/downloads.htm

You should download and install in the following order SR2 (Series 1433), SR3 (Series 1444) and SR4A (Series 1518) or you can open Max, click on help and select >Maximizer Live Update to up date your Maximizer automatically.

In your Address book folder have a look to see if there is a file cold >PVSW.LOG if you see this file, Delete it, and then try and open your Database.

Also make sure when you move your Address book onto you new Machine that you open Maximizer click on File >New Address Book and then point Maximizer to your Address book folder that has been moved onto your new Machine
