Having just upgraded to Maximizer CRM10 Entrepreneur, I have encountered an issue with removing and deleting address books under the SQL Server Express environment.

Prior to CRM10 previous versions require you to click on "remove" for the address book in the "open address book" dialog and then it was simply the case of locating the folder where the address book files were kept and deleting the folder.

Now with CRM10 you still click on "remove" in the "open address book" dialog but it's no longer simply deleting the folder containing the address book as it is all now managed by SQL Server Express.

The documentation for CRM10 Entrepreneur does not document the process by which the physical files are removed and its now a case you have to use sqlcmd to get rid of the files, but I wouldn't recommend this for the novice user.

You can remove the physical files by either locating them on the disk and deleting them or by deleting the database from within the SQL Manager program.

I don't think you can simply delete the actual files without removing their entries from the SQL database first as it will leave the name of the address book within the SQL instance.

I think you'd find that if you went to try and create a new address book using the same name as the one you've "removed" and deleted the files from the folder, you'd encounter an SQL error.

Unfortunately the CRM10 Entrepreneur documentation covering the removal of address books is quite lacking.

I have a similar problem. Will be replacing my D drive very soon, where the data resides.. I have copied the files to a temp folder on C but can't figure out how to point CRM10 to those files. Any help would be appreciated. If I add a new database, it just adds a new one under D again.

First off, the documentation pertaining to the integration of CRM10 Entrepreneur and SQL Server Express, in my opinion, is woeful. Nowhere can you find anything relating to the maintenance of the address books in an SQL environment.

As can be seen from the posting by CABC support above, you can no longer simply delete an address book, you have to use an external process to complete the physical removal of the address book.

As to where the address books are themselves located, this controlled in the SQL Instance MAXIMIZER.

All I can suggest to you is to take a copy of the folder on your D drive that contain the address books, in my case it's D:\My Documents\Microsoft SQL Server stick it on a temporary folder on your C drive and then after you've replaced your D drive, copy it back.

Good luck.

Thanks, it didn't work. Once the new D drive was installed, without the data there, Maximizer wouldn't even start up at all to restore anything. Unfortunately it seems one needs to have an IT tech available to run this program. It's no longer feasable for the average user.

Sorry for the dud advice.

Something that I did over the weekend that could help out in your situation.

I wanted to move the CRM10 folders from within the My Documents folder to the root folder of the drive itself.

I first started out by taking backups of the address books that I had set up.

Next I completely uninstalled CRM10 and then removed the MAXIMISER instance from SQL Express. This second part is quite easy, go into COntrol Panel, Add/Remove Programs, select SQL Express and click on remove. A dialog box will pop up asking if you just want to remove an SQL Instance and all I did was click on the Maximizer one.

After I had done this I re-installed CRM10 setting up the data folders in the root drive.

Then I started up Maximizer and defined an address book with the same name as what I had previously used.

Closing the newly created address box I then went into Administrator an performed a restore from the backup I had taken before I did the uninstall. Starting CRM10 I then had my address books successfully relocated.
When you moved the databases over did you copy only your database or did you also copy the MACONFIG database?

The MACONFIG contains all your system settings and without that being in the SQL databases you are unlikely to be able to get Maximizer to start.

I would suggest you reinstall Maximizer, then reconnect the databases you backed up to the SQL Instance. Then in Maximizer you should be able to connect to a new database on the SQL Instance.

This should enable your re-installed Maximizer to be able to connect to your backed up databases.
Just to clarify:

1. Maximizer CRM 10 Entrepreneur and Group Editions do not use an MACONFIG database to store their settings. They continue to use an MxzDir.cfg file like their predecessors (Maximizer 9 and Maximizer Enterprise 9.x Workgroup, respectively).

2. The recommended procedure for moving a v10 Entrepreneur/Group address book database from one server to another is to perform a backup in the Maximizer Administrator module on the old server, then restore that backup via the Maximizer Administrator module on the new server.
