We have a business rule that where a company does not have a known contact we create a dummy contact. The dummy contact simply needs a "Dear Sir/Madam" in the salutation field for form letters.

If you go "Add/ContactForNewCompany" the system (quite rightly) won't let you save unless you enter a LastName. However I have found that if you first create the company and then create the contact you can save the latter with only the Salutation field filled. I suspect this is a bug that has become a feature for me.

My question is (future proofing here) is this bug/feature still present in later versions such as 6? TIA

After testing various methods of creating Companies and Contacts on Version 6 of Maximiser, my answer is No the bug is not present.

To create a dummy contact for a company with no contact, their last name has to be something like a comma (i.e. , ) or full stop.

dont know if that helps or not.
