Ent2000 slow on Win2000

I have recently installed Enterprise 2000 on a Win2K machine. Most things seem to be running OK; I have noticed some problems with the Macros and the Word 'Insert merge field' functions in that they run extremely slow. The Macros run fine, but the system hangs for about 30 seconds and then returns to normal. In Word 2000, it also takes about 30 seconds to bring up the Maximizer field list, and another 30 seconds to insert it into the document. Win98 responded much quicker. Has anyone experienced a similar problem or can anyone recommend a solution.

Does the machine have at least 128MB of RAM?

Yes, the machine has 512kb of DDR RAM and 15GB still free on the HDD.

Could it possibly be faulty h/w?
