I am having a problem with a network system running Maximizer Enterprise 2000, Accpac and Pervasive 2000.

The network server is running Novell 3.12, with Pervasive 2000 Server.

The workstation are all at least PII or PIII with 64Mb Ram. Some have more Ram.

Some of the Maximizer users also have Accpac running on their computers that uses the Pervasive 2000 Server engine.

The computers that are running Maximizer only have no problems. The computers running Maximizer and Accpac tend to hang frequently.

Maximizer is using the local Pervasive Client engine, Accpac uses the Pervasive Server engine. As soon as I configure Maximizer to use the server engine it gives an error 3012 and 3014. This is due to the fact that Maximizer reads the local MXZDIR.DAT file when you open the application. Without the Pervasive engine running locally the system cannot read the MXZDIR.DAT file and the error comes up.

The ideal is to have both Maximizer and Accpac using the Pervasive Server engine.

Has anyone had the same problem?
Is there a solution?

I see no real reason why you should not get both systems to work using client server.

Make sure you have the Pervasive client set to Try Server Then Workstation and its best to ensure Accept Remote Requests is off in the local engine settings.

Install the full pervasive client to get access to the configuration tool so that you can check these easily.

You'll also need to ensure that the server has sufficient file handles etc in order to cope and that the higher of the buffer requirements for each app is used as the settings on the Server.

You can also use the smartscout tool to test the connections work (the latest on lets you check access to local files too). If your still having problems there's possibly a component problem. Make sure your Pervasive.SQL 2000 is SP1 or SP2a (NOT SP2).
