Error Message 11 Characters

I have maximizer 8 and sometimes when I just add a phone number or a few letters in a field, or select a title in a drop down box (such as Sales) it will give me an error message saying "No more than 11 Characters allowed" as a result I can't save the information i want to save. When it happens it often won't even let me store the info in another field. WHat do I do?
