Error trying to upgrade database

Have just installed Max10 Entrepeneur & trying to upgrade a Max8 PE database. The Pervasive engine is installed on the PC. After selecting the location of the Max8 database & trying to upgrade the database I get the following message:

Bad database! Maximizer will be closed now.

Any ideas what causes this? Thanks
