When I go to open the address book it just sits there for a second and then the cursor comes back on the screen so you can hit open again and again and nothing will happen.
I tried to open a new database using the same path and rename it but it went to the next screen saying the address book already exists hit ok if you want to use that info and when I hit ok it just returns to the previous screen where you put in the path name.
Let me know if you need more specifics.
Ihave the database set up on 1 computer (which is the one not working) and the second is her laptop which looks at the files.

On the computer the files aren't working the directory is c:/program files/ Maximizer/ Maxdata/AddressBook/Master

On the second computer which can open the database off the computer that isn't working I have it networked to drive M:/Maxdata/Addressbook/Master

So, I know the database isn't corrupt since it will open on another computer. Just not the main one.
I looked over your document and I don't think that is the problem. I don't have a multi user license since it is 1 user on 2 computers and so it only needs to be run at one location at a time. The address book will open at the alternate workstation, but will not function on the primary workstation. The program will not recognize that address book, but it will recognize the preloaded address books. To me that indicates a problem w/ the program not the setup. Also it has been fully fuctional for about 6months before this occured. Any other ideas?
>Yes, if it is a new address book from scratch.

So it's not the program, it's the address book folder. Take another look at the document. Read the section about the Gateway Locator. If more than one machine is going to access the Address Book then that information is important, even if both machines are not going to be accessing the data simultaneously.
I followed the instructions you left me and I got the main computer up and runningBig Grin However now when I go into the alternate computer I am getting a new message error.

I create a new database w/the file path of the networked drive. It says that the location you chose already has a databasase and I say ok. THEN I get "File is currently in use. Waiting for access" This messgae is new for me. I have rebooted both computers and on host computer closed the database and then exited maximizer. So, the database is closed and I don't know what happened HELP! Confused
Ok, I got the pervasive startup to work. It must have been a glitch the first time. BUT, I still can't open the database on the alternate computer it still says database is in use.

Now I am guessing that because I have a default gateway setup now and it is not letting me in still...that this might be because of user licenses. We only have 1 becuase it is the same user.

If not, what else can I try?
Okay, so we have the [Pervasive] Workgroup Engine pre-loading on both machines. Restart both of them, log-in to Windows and verify that the pre-load icon (tiny workstation with a little green light) appears next to the clock in the system tray.

Do not launch Maximizer on the gateway machine. Try opening the troublesome Address Book from the laptop. Do you still get the "File In Use" message?

I am confused Confused In the dos command prompt I get:
C:cd is not a recognized as an internal or external command
same w/ the next line it says program is not a recognizable command. I enter the path as \program files\etc..... from your posting.

If I do this in the run section on windows It recognizes the path as Addrbks
also I saw a file called ~pvsw~.loc not .log
regardless I can't get it to run.
>I saw a file called ~pvsw~.loc not .log

Sorry, my typo. The file is in fact "~pvsw~.loc".

>not a recognized as an internal or external command

Okay, try entering each of these at a command prompt...

type "c:\Program Files\Maximizer\MaxData\AddrBks\Master\~pvsw~.loc"

ipconfig /all | find "Host Name"

...and tell us what each of those two commands returns.

In the dos command prompt when you type
"c:\Program Files\Maximizer\MaxData\AddrBks\Master\~pvsw~.loc"
I get this back "program" is not reconizible as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

when I enter the second command ipconfig /all | find "Host Name it just goes back to the C: prompt

If I run this in the Run command in windows the first entry takes me to a directory asking me what program to open with.

The second entry for ip addiress it will quickly blink to the dos prompt and then back to the desktop. giving me no information.
On the gateway machine, choose

Start > Programs > Pervasive > Pervasive Control Center

Click the [+] to expand

Pervasive.SQL 2000i Engines
Reception
Configuration
Server

In the left pane, click the "Communication protocols" folder to select it, then in the right pane double-click "Supported protocols". In the "Selected:" list on the right, ensure that both of the following entries are present:

Microsoft TCP/IP
Microsoft NETBIOS

On the laptop, do the same thing except expand

Pervasive.SQL 2000i Engines
[MachineName]
Configuration
Client

As before, both Microsoft TCP/IP and Microsoft NETBIOS should be selected.

Restart both machines, then try Maximizer again.

did as you asked and it was off, so I adjusted. Both machines are logged into windows. Now I am back to the beginning. When you go to create a new database and you put in the file path it says database already exists hit ok to use it. Hit ok and now it just goes back to the path name and just sits their and let you keep trying w/ no result.
Okay, I give up. Your system configurations are, for whatever reason, much different than the defaults for a Maximizer 7 install.

Your best options at this point are:

1. Completely remove Maximizer 7 from both machines using the instructions here, then reinstall from scratch, or

2. Call Maximizer Support at 1-888-745-4645 and get them to help you.

Good luck.

Just found this site and quickly scrolled through.
we had a guy install max5. in his properties for the address book he had m:\ not m:\maximizer. so, do you have a drive mapped to x: and not x:\maximizer and is your location m:\maximizer ?
i just changed my user rights on win2kpro and it won't start unless I am logged in as a user with admin rights. hope it helps.
