HTML email in Max 9

In the Lit for Max 9 it has a check mark next to HTML email. Will someone please tell me specifically if I would be able to build an HTML document, then insert field codes for merging? Is this what that means? Or is HTML email meaning simply rich text, and no mechanism to, say, build an html newsletter in dreamweaver and then insert some address block maximizer fields, then use that as an email temaplate? Thanks

I guess it's basically just glorified rich text, not really html. I was afraid of that.
