I am evaluating the Enterprise Enterprise 8.0 demo and I am having problems. I cannot get the email and website fields to import or any of the USD fields. I’ve followed instructions that Maximizer provides for importing ACT 6.0, even the pre cleaning up the ACT dbase before importing, to no avail. So I exported to a CSV file and tried to import that. No success. Then I thought, well let me create a brand new CSV file independent of ACT in Excel (as well as a lot of other types) and tried to import those (no Act corruption that way) and still Maximizer won’t import an email address. Why would this not work? I know the import feature must work, but for what and for who is beyond me at this point.

I’m not sure what to do and I definitely am not sure what to make of Maximizer’s sales reps response, “Well Maximizer isn’t for everybody. Maybe you should try another contact manager software?” or, for $300.00 plus, we can transfer your data – no guarantees. The price for switching from ACT to Maximizer is $245.00 Canadian plus taxes and shipping. He couldn’t emphasis enough there would be no refunds. What to do, I’m really confused by all of this? I have some considerable reservations regarding making what is a big change and investment of time to switch when the program won't do a simple CSV import.

I have looked at others but I don’t think they are a good fit. (Goldmine imported okay but won’t go feature wise where I need it to go long-term.

I did download Goldmine's demo and imported okay from ACT, but Maximizer wouldn't import that either.

There is a hotfix for 8.0, apparently unrelated to my problems but I can't get it to install as it keeps asking me to shutdown Maximizer email and fax files. I haven't a clue which files these are and can't shutdown what I can't identify. I've tried a reboot and retry as well.

I'm not using Enterprise, and I've only done this with Max 7, but I've done a LOT of importing of CSV files with Max 7. It's been very easy and quite bulletproof - I quite like the tools they give you for data import in the version I'm using. Do you really need Enterprise? If not, my advice is check out Max 7.

As an FYI, I tried using Act a few years ago as it was the corporate standard for the company I was with. I hated it. First program I've ever used where it was absolutely obvious different parts of the program had been written by different programmers. As an example, the UDF capability of Max is a fundamental, seamless part of the program, but the similar capability with Act was obviously an after-thought - powerful but very, very awkward to use. Can't speak to current versions, but I'll not go back without a battle!

I need to be able to send out the monthly newsletter to clients. It is HTML and Enterprise will do that. Things are growing as well where the campaign manager may be needed as well.

I think I'm going to try to download the non enterprise version of maximizer and try an import from there and then from enterprise from maximizer.

Hi John,

I too bought Maximizer 8 and wanted to import my ACT!6 data. After doing all the things you did and spending a lot of time on the support line, they determined that Maximizer 8 has a bug and cannot import.

Here is the communication I just received on this very same issue:

"...just an update that your issue was identified as a program issue and it will be addressed in an upcoming service release . Thank you"

I hope this helps so you don't spend a lot of time. I am trying to contact Customer Service to see what they'll do for me. You may try the same!

Sincerely,

Joe

Why not ask for a copy of Max 7, and if you can import to it, then upgrade to Max or Max Enterprise 8?

I haven't imported from Act into Max 7 but have done a LOT of importing from CSV files with great success. When transferring from one Address Book to another it appears company relationships (ie - Related Entries data) doesn't go across,. so you might want to double-check this if it's part of the Act import.

Thank you for the advice...it's actually a great idea. I have not yet heard back from Maximizer Customer Service, but it may be the way to go.

I am coming to the conclusion, though, that I will be losing a lot of information when I import my ACT! data. I don't think the History and current activities come over. Plus, ACT! Groups won't go over.

I hope I'm doing the right thing!

Thanks again for your reply...I really do appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Joe Graziano
