>Why does the system keep putting .loc files into the data directory?

The Pervasive engine uses ~pvsw~.loc files to let other machines in the workgroup know which machine is acting as the gateway. They are an integral part of the way the Pervasive Workgroup engine works.

>I find that these can stop access, when I delete them its ok again.

Then either ...

- your workgroup is misconfigured (no permanent gateway assigned), or

- your gateway machine is unavailable: not powered-on, or not reachable, or not configured properly (e.g., licenses)

>How do I stop them or make them have no effect

Use the Gateway Locator to make a permanent assignment to your [dedicated] gateway machine, and make sure that it is set up properly. Go to the Knowledge Base and search for Ref # 020806-000000 for more information.
I've had a terrible time with my network Max 7 and crashes and error messages. Max support went through a step by step process of deleting the .LOC files and permanently assigning a gateway. I removed all the .LOC files but know some of them are back. I'm not sure if they're being replaced (copied) from the gateway machine during someother process.
If you figure it out please let me know.
