We have Maximizer Enterprise 6 with a 10 user licence. For months, it has been working fine, but today it seems to have reverted to a single user version.
If I log in as MASTER and select FILE/SYSTEM REPORTS/CURRENT USERS I am told I have a 10-user licence with one user logged on.
When other users try to log in, they are told either 'Maximum Users logged in' or 'There has been a data access error caused by a single user version trying to open an Address Book folder that has already been opened by another user.'
I have attempted to reload the multi-user licence disk, but the system just hangs and Windows says it is not responing.
Any help please.

If this has a Peer to Peer setup you could check the Gateway assignment?

Open the ~PVSW~.LOC file in Notepad (if there is one) is it assigned to the correct machine?

Is the Pervasive SQL Engine running?

If you get everyone to log out of Maximizer (if they have it open) and go to Start>Programs>PervasiveSQL 2000i>Utilities>Monitor>MicroKernal>Active Users is there anyone that still has files locked open?

I have also seen occasions when this was being caused by somesort of Protocol Issue.

Can you Ping the Server from an effected workstation?

How about TRACERTing the Server to see how the routing is setup?

Have you tried running Smart Scout?

It is in C:\PVSW\BIN and is called SSCOUT32.exe

Can you run it on a broken machine and on a fixed machine, go straight to 'System Tests'

Browse it to the location of the database Maximizer is trying to open (exactly as the attached screenshot) then click run tests

When done click on report and 'include registry information' and save it as a file.

A program such a 'WinMerge' Click Here does a very good job of Differencing text/log files

Where does each machine differ?

The problem is that i believe that this error is a red herring.

I agree that the evidence may be a red herring - we will reboot the server when it is quiet.

Meanwhile - in answer to your specific questions:
1. yes - peer to peer.

2. ~PVSW~.LOC is correctly assigned on both the server and workstations.

3. Cannot find Start>Programs>PervasiveSQL 2000i>Utilities>Monitor>MicroKernal>Active Users - tried to search elsewhere, but nothing found.

4. Yes - we can PING the server (other activities on the same server are running fine). However, the server was rebooted yesterday evening and it looks like that was when things went wrong.

5. Cannot find SmartScout in C:/PVSW/BIN - or anywhere else.

I will see what the re-boot does.
