We have a Maximizer 10 server installed on a windows 2003 server, and this server also has a PPTP windows VPN server running. usually, I can login and connect to maximizer through VPN from home or other office, but my boss can not do this same way. while he connected to VPN, opened maximizer workstation, it was busy for a while and then the login window was showed up, after that, a error message was given" The database server'my-database-server-name'is not running. Please try again later." As he is working in a remote location, I can not get any more info right now. It is very appreciated for any suggestions or hints.

We do not generally recommend attempting to use Maximizer over a VPN in this way because the performance can be very poor. You may find it better to access a remote Maximizer system using terminal server.

In this instance the problem could be caused by network routing (ie other connections that are open on the computer with conflicting address ranges) or possibly security associated with the way the user has authenticated with your SQL server.

The first thing to check is that if you go into the control panel/administrative tools/ODBC sources and attempt to add a new SQL server type system DSN can you select the yourserver\maximizer SQL server? If not (and I suspect not) then there is some form of networking issue to resolve.

If you require further assistance with this then we will be happy to undertake a remote session if you purchase a support incident at www.crmshop.co.uk
