I have a new install of version 6 in peer-to-peer fashion. The PC hosting the database is NT 4 SP5, the clients are W2K SP1. I have a 3 user license. SP1 for Maximizer has been installed.

If I do not specify a gateway I can get in from the machine hosting the database as well as the other PCs. Once I configure a gateway (on the same machine as the one hosting the database), the only machine that can get in is the one where the database resides. The other PCs receive: "There has been a data access error probably caused by an incorrect configuration. Please see your administrator."

Multiactive "speed support" made the situation worse by having me edit the registry. I do not even get the error and get booted out of Maximizer. Deleting the ~PVSW~.LOC file gets me back in the database without the gateway. I also removed the specified registry entries. The contents of the .loc file are the correct machine name for the gateway.

Any thoughts before I wait on hold for 20 minutes with "speed support" for my allocated 15 minutes? Thanks.

Are you pre-loading the WorkGroup Engine on the gateway machine? The command is

C:\PVSW\BIN\W3DBSMGR.EXE -BTRV

Since you're using an NT box as the gateway your options are:

1. Set the box to automatically login on boot, then put the above command in a batch file in one of the startup groups.

2. Run the WGE as a service using the SRVANY.EXE utility from the Windows NT Resource Kit. (Not sure if this is officially supported by Pervasive, but I tried it once and it seemed to work okay.)
I think we may be on to something here. If I'm logged into NT (Maximizer closed) I cannot access the database from the workstation.

If Maximizer is open on the server and the address book is closed the workstation, I cannot access the database. I recieve a bunch of beeps and get kicked out the program on the workstation.

If I have the address book open on the server, I can access the address book.

I tried running the command manually,
(w3dbsmgr.exe) and it put the pervasive icon in my system tray, but I still couldn't get in from the workstation.
