Max 7 and email addresses

We have Max 7.0 and ever since the installation took place we have had a problem with email addresses. When entering info on a new contact, on the first page (before you go to the specific user tab fields), in the bottom left hand corner under "Internet Information", if you enter the contact's email address it will not retain the info. When you pull that contact back up the email address is gone. Now, if you enter the email address under the user defined fields, it will keep the information.
Please advise.
