Respecting Patrick Wong's comments re Maxexchange, the following statement is not entirely true: "1. MaxExchange DOES NOT run on Windows NT Server nor does it run on Novell Netware Server." insofar as MaxExchange does run quite well on Windows NT Server. It is true that MaxExchange cannot be run directly from a Novell server however. We have a number of clients who have been running MaxExchange effectively on NT Server 4 for the past three years.

Karen Thanks for dropping in to Max Talk. (I'm not sure what's happend to this thread though!)

Max Exchange on NT Serevr is an interesting subject at present. I have lots of clients where this is working without any problems, with and without client server btrieve. I have recently seen a Multactive comment that the configuration is not optimal. I believe this to be because your server is there to do other things too and Max Exchange Server is not implemented as a service. As a programmer there's very little difference between NT Workstation and NT server so I'm very happy with the statment that it may not be optimal it certainly works fine.

In respect to your coments Karen. Running Maxexchange on an NT server can and will lead to problems and if you do not have a capable NT admin the problems will occur right from the start. NT server is designed for services and not designed for applications and Maxexchange can give unpredictable results.

Just wondering what problems peole have seen with MaxExchange and NT Server.

As with Karen, I have customers using NT Server with no problems for several years.

I also have a client who is currently investigating a program that allows you to set up applications as services. When he gives me an answer, I'll post something here.

The main things I have seen is that the automatic processing of Packets doesn't work sometimes. If your running Btrieve on the same server you could have minor File in use problems. If your using FTP you could experience FTP communication problems as well becuase of service's running in the background.
