I am supporting a site that uses Maximizer 6. They have been using it to sotre documents into the letters file. This file is now over 4gb in size and keeps giving errors. When I backup and restore the file it comes back to life and will allow links to be added to docs but not whole objects. I tried to purge old documents but that too gives errors forcing me to backup and restore the file again to repair it. What can be done to rememdy this problem?

Help!

What sort of errors is it giving?

When you do a backup and restore you are in effect rebuilding the letters file, you lose any documents that were created after a corruption occured as the file is re-indexed.

What will probably need to be established is what is causing so many 'errors'?

Is someones machine excessivley crashing with documents open?

Thanks for that Gord. My theory was that that was the problem. I am very pleased that I now have proof. However, I am still faced with the issue that the purge function gets the same error and won't let me clear the file. I guess I am caught between a rock and a hard place.

It mentions that using btrieve 7 might help. Does that mean that using the pervasive engine from version 7 would work. IE load a different w3dbsmgr.exe?

No, it means telling the current engine to create files in v7 format:

If you make that change, restart the server, then do another backup/restore it should convert the files to v7 format.

(Remember that as far as we know this is still officially unsupported for Max6/ME6, so proceed at your own risk.)
