As part of installing Maximizer 6 my records from version 5 were converted. 6 also installed the Pervasive SQL Engine even though this is a single computer installation. What I now find is the start up loading of records is considerably slower then the version 5 Btrieve engine. Is this normal and can I go back to Btrieve? BTW I'm only talking about 500 records.

My second question is in the Opportunities
window Competiton Tab only seems, after asign and search, to show the individual's name rather then company name, is there a way to change the seach to show company name?

Thanks

Roy

Were you installing 6.0 over an existing 5.0 installation? If so, did it not give you the option to keep using Btrieve 6.15? That's what Maximizer_2000 (v5.5) upgrade installs did.

I've also found that P.SQL seems to have a longer startup time than Btrieve. Usually the trade-off is that newer versions of software take longer to load, but once they're running they are smarter and/or faster than previous versions. Of course, with a relatively small Address Book you might not notice much of a difference in the course of your day-to-day work.

See above. If they've taken out the option to stick with Btrieve for upgrade installs (and they may well have), then reverting to Btrieve is probably not possible. Remember that Pervasive declared 6.15 obsolete (no longer supported) over a year ago.
Thanks for replying Gord.

I did install over version 5 and the only option was single computer or network.
I selected single and that's how I ended up with the Pervasive engine. I don't remember a choice between Btrieve and Pervasive.

I can live with it but I wonder how long you have to wait for a couple of thousand records to be loaded?

My second question is regarding the Opportunities window. Can you do a search on company names when you fill out the Competition Tab?

Then it sounds like the option to stick with Btrieve is no longer available.

That depends on a lot of factors, of course. However, as I suggested in my previous post, the payback for a higher fixed cost (load time) might well be a lower variable cost (per-record retrieval time). That's certainly the case when people upgrade to client-server: it takes a few seconds longer to open the Address Book but then retrieving records is way faster.

I'll leave that for someone who has more experience with the intricacies of the application itself. (I'm not a pilot, I'm more like the ground crew. wink )
