I just upgraded from Max 7 to Max 8 using Windows 2000.It is taking incredibly long to load my address book (easily 20 minutes. With Max 7 it loaded within seconds. Any suggestions.
Yikes! When you start the machine do you see the Pervasive icon in the system tray, like this?
Is the Address Book you're opening on another machine? If so, have you tried opening an Address Book in your Local List to see if that makes any difference?
Gord that was it. The new simple column set up works fine and builds the entire list in a second. Knowing that, how can I use my regular setup with user defined fields? Thank you for your help.

If you insist on displaying all 2800 entries on startup, then you will have to adjust your column setup. How many UDFs are displayed? Do you really need them all?
Try adding one UDF to the end of your simplified column layout and see how that affects performance. Note that you should not have a UDF as the first column - that will degrade performance significantly.
I like to use 2 UDFs so that I can quickly sort them in their columns. When I add them to the lasst 2 columns, building the list really slows down. Again, I didn't have this problem with Max 7.
So it appears that v8 behaves differently than v7 in this regard. If you are disappointed by this, send a note to suggestions@maximizer.com and let them know so they can add your comments to the "wish list" for future versions.
