(Just moved this post to this support forum)

I have an XP machine with a single user install of Maximizer 7, which I have tried to install. It seems to install correctly, but when I try to start it, I get the error.

"DataManager returned an error code of 3012"
"Local Engine is not accessible to the MicroKernal Router"

I called support and they said that my McAfee virus protection and firewall was the problem, and that I should uninstall that and the Maximizer should work.

How can Maximizer not work with one of the top anti-virus/firewall packages out there? This makes no sense, I have never had any other problem with McAfee and other programs.

He said that I could also uninstall Maximizer by following the knowledge base. What software built today does not have an uninstall as part of the package.

Has anyone else had McAfee/Maximizer Issues? What did you do to solve them?

I had been a Maximzer user in the past, but this is pushing me away.

Try auto-running the Pervasive engine.

We run McAfee on all our machines without a problem.

Go to Start>Programs>Pervasive>Pervasive.SQL 2000i>Engines and right click and copy the shortcut here.

Next go to Start>Programs>Startup (right click on startup and select Open All Users) in the explorer box that opens go to Edit>Paste.

Try a reboot then try Maximizer again.

If this doesn't work then it maybe an incorrect setting in the Pervasive Control Centre or a partially installed Pervasive Engine (probably caused by AV software, though have never seen McAfee do this)

Norton is the thorn in Maximizers side usually due to its Script Blocking causing crashes when opening embedded Word documents

I spent time on the phone with Maximizer Support before I posted yesterday, and will address the points below.

The P-engine is setup for auto pre-load now (is that what you meant) however, we manually tried to start it and kept having problems basically having an error loop.

With Support we checked the P-engine settings, and they seemed good to him.

But on the other hand the support guy seemed like he was reading a script and was way too willing to push all these as McAfee problems and nothing is wrong with Maximizer

Any other suggestions
I finally bit the bullet and uninstalled all my McAfee software. I was then able to install Maximizer and have it work.

But then when I re-installed my McAfee firewall, it stopped working again, with the same error. So even though I am a single user with no network except my internet access, I opened the firewall for Internet Access for all of Maximizer applications. That seemed to fix the problem.

I still don't understand though, if I am a single user, why I would have to have internet access for Maximizer to work.
Hey all, new to this site, but I thought I'd chime in on this because I've seen it before on a friend's machine.

As far as we've been able to figure out, it's an issue with the way the Pervasive database runs. Even though you're running as a single computer, the Pervasive database tries to access various network components during its normal course of operation. When your firewall sees this, it thinks that the program is trying to access the internet, even though it really isn't. That's why you have to allow that program access through the firewall. I don't know all the technical details, but that's basically what's going on here.

That's just the way the Pervasive database works, I guess. Hope that helps.
likewise i have to make a comment.

Maximizer is a good program but there are some issues that i think the boys in the software develpement department need to iron out.
But then we would have nothing to write about huh?
Some of the problems seem simple and need sorting out before the next version?

Though the other problem we have had is the maximizer representives that are suppose to help you with techinical issues onsite.

Well my boss got so angry with the service from the local guy he said to me go home read the maximizer book on our time and come back and administer this program.
So i took up the challenge and got maximizer working 2 times faster just buy setting up the gateway in pervassive?
Now we are backing up and our max exchange never worked better. All i did is follow the basic stuff in the book at first?

But what gets me is we were paying this maximizer guy $120.00 and hour to have this done?

look out version 8! well we can only hope?

Have you sent your concerns to suggestions@maximizer.com?

>my boss got so angry with the service from the local guy

Did your company tell them that? If so, and you didn't get any satisfaction from them, did you tell Maximizer Software about your experience?

[Note: I'm one of those guys who sometimes gets paid by other people to troubleshoot Maximizer.]

I guess my first question is: Did you try to do it yourself before calling in outside help? Many people don't. They recognize that they do not have the time or the troubleshooting skills themselves, so they call somebody who [presumably] does. (Analogy: Many people who could perform minor home repairs still choose to pay somebody else do it.)

No but is sounds like a good idea!

>"Did your company tell them that? If so, and you didn't get any satisfaction from them, did you tell Maximizer Software about your experience?"<

Well yes I did call Maximizer myself once and they just refered us back to him! (passed the buck so to speak though i should of followed it up my fault)
However my boss usually deals with the max guy and had become tired of this guys sometimes complete arrogance. (it doesn't take much to piss him off! like all bosses)

Yes we paid the max guy to setup the whole "banana" up from scratch and thought everything was kosher?
But we always had on going problems and had to call him back. Now our maximizer is working much better than we ever had it in 3 years.

Look i'm sure if you we in our town here we would have no problems but i once asked our max guy about why he had not setup the gateways in pervasive (as per the books instructions on workstation setup) and he gave me blank look!

Also I asked why he had not configured the good backup features in maximizer? I got the same look?

Anyway I'll stop the bashing this guy and say one thing my biggest source of info and help has been the support pages of www.maximizer.com, GREAT STUFF!!
