Jim this is probably a firewall issue. Try turning it off temporarily and if this clears the problem you will need to add an appropriate rule. Failing this log onto the machine as the domain admin and see if the problem still exists if not then you probably have some form of security related issue. Afraid it is difficult to give you more than pointers here.
The problem was solved by the following steps:
1. installing sql server management studio on the computer that is trying to make the connection.
2. connect to the MAXIMIZER instance
3. drill down on "Databases" one of the databases will be called "MaConfig"
4. drill down on "MaConfig" drill down on "Tables". One of the tables will be "dbo.MaConfig"
5. right click on this table and select edit top 200 rows
6. eSection column should have a list of fields with the name of the db your connecting to.
7. in the eKey column their will be a field that says SERVICE_WORKSPACE_PATH next to that is a field that, in my case, only had DSN: showing.
8. the solution was to simply add "MAS_[db name] after the column and everything worked just fine. Jim
